CSULB Academic Calendar 2023-2024: Important Dates

The CSULB academic calendar 2023-2024 has the latest term deadlines for Admissions, exams, add/drop, Registration, Financial Aid, Scholarships, Fee Payments, and Graduation.

California State University, Long Beach operates on a semester system. A semester at CSULB is 15 weeks long. Each semester is supplemented by a fee-supported summer term and a fee-supported winter session.

Normally, fall semester classes begin in late August or early September. The last day of instruction usually comes midway in December. This allows for a week of final examinations before the winter recess, which begins in mid-December.

The spring semester usually begins in the last week of January and ends in mid-May, in time for a week of final examinations and the week of commencement exercises just before or after the Memorial Day holiday. The summer term begins in June and ends in late August.

CSULB academic calendar fall 2023

Check out the important dates and deadlines on the CSULB academic calendar for fall 2023.

1. New undergraduate student registration is from June to August 2023. New first-year and transfer students register at SOAR.
2. The first Fee Payment Deadline is July 12, 2023. It is the deadline for students who registered between April 4 and June 30, 2023, to make a deposit, accept financial aid, or pay tuition in full.
3. The first day you can register for more than 18 units is July 31, 2023. An approved petition is required.
4. The last day of waitlist auto-enrollment is August 7, 2023. After this date, waitlists are no longer used.
5. Fall 2023 Fee Payment Deadline is August 9, 2023. Fees are due 30 days after registration or by this deadline, whichever occurs first.
6. Fall Semester begins on Thursday, August 17, 2023.
7. Convocation is on Friday, August 18, 2023.
8. CSULB Move-in Day 2023 is from August 18, 2023, to August 19, 2023.
9. BeachScholarships Application Period is from August 21, 2023, to October 4, 2023. All new and continuing students may apply. Application periods are for scholarships to be provided during the indicated semester.
10. The Fall 2023 deadline to drop and receive a full refund is August 21, 2023.
11. CSULB fall 2023 classes start on August 21, 2023. It is the first day of classes.
12. Open University Enrollment is from August 22, 2023 to September 19, 2023.
13. Labor Day (campus closed) holiday is September 4, 2023, according to the CSULB holiday schedule 2023.
14. September 5, 2023 is the last day to add or drop classes without approval.
15. The deadline to add or swap a class without approval is September 5, 2023. 
16. September 5, 2023 is the deadline to drop a class without receiving a W. 
17. CSULB Fall Break 2023 is from Monday, November 20, 2023, to Wednesday, November 22, 2023.
18. CSULB Thanksgiving break 2023 is from Thursday, November 23, 2023 to Sunday, November 26, 2023. The California State University, Long Beach’s Thanksgiving holiday immediately follow the fall break period. Classes resume on Monday, November 27, 2023, after the Fall and Thanksgiving break.
19. The last day of classes for fall 2023 is December 11, 2023.
20. Final Exams are from Tuesday, December 12, 2023 to Monday, December 18, 2023.
21. Residential Halls close on December 17, 2022 at 11 a.m.
22. The last day of the semester is on December 22, 2023.
23. CSULB winter break 2023 (Christmas break) is from Monday, December 25, 2023 to Monday, January 1, 2024.

CSULB academic calendar spring 2024

Check out the important dates and deadlines on the CSULB academic calendar for spring 2024.

1. New undergraduate student registration is from December 2023 to January 2024. New first-year and transfer students register at SOAR.
2. Petition for Exception to Maximum Unit Load is on January 2, 2024. It is the first day you can register for more than 18 units. An approved petition is required.
3. Waitlist Deadline is January 8, 2024. It is the last day of waitlist auto-enrollment. After this date, waitlists are no longer used.
4. The deadline to drop and receive a full refund is January 21, 2024. Drop all classes by this day to receive a full refund.
5. CSULB Spring 2024 classes start on January 22, 2024.
6. A $25 late registration fee will apply for initial registration starting this date or later.  
7. Open University Enrollment is on January 22, 2024, according to CSULB academic calendar 2023-2024.
8. The deadline to drop and receive a refund for a reduction in calculated charges is February 4, 2024. This is the same day as the last day to add, swap, or drop a class without approval. All changes must be completed in the MyCSULB Student Center by 10 p.m, according to CSULB academic calendar 2023-2024. 
9. The deadline to withdraw from all classes for a prorated refund is March 28, 2024.
10. The last day to add or drop classes without approval is February 4, 2024.
11. It is the deadline to add or swap a class without approval. The deadline to drop a class without receiving a W. Deadline to drop and receive a refund for reduction in calculated charges. 
12. Withdraw (with approval only) is from February 5, 2024, to April 19, 2024.
13. Permission to Add (with approval only) is from February 5, 2024 to February 11, 2024.
14. Late Add (by exception only) is from February 12, 2024, to February 16, 2024.
15. Grade Option Change Request Deadline is February 11, 2024. It is the deadline to change the grading option for a class to Credit/No Credit (CR/NC) or Audit (AU).
16. The deadline to file credit by examination is February 9, 2024, according to CSULB academic calendar 2023-2024.
17. The University Census is February 16, 2024. Finalize your enrollment by this day. 
18. CSULB Spring Break 2024 is from Monday, April 1, 2024, to Sunday, April 7, 2024. Cesar Chavez Day (campus closed) is Monday, April 1, 2024.
19. Catastrophic Withdrawals are on April 20, and May 10, 2024.
20. The last day of Spring 2024 classes is May 10, 2024.
21. Spring 2024 Final Examinations are scheduled from Monday, May 13, 2024, to Saturday, May 18, 2024.
22. CSULB Commencement 2024 is from Monday, May 20, 2024, to Friday, May 24, 2024. 
23. Spring 2024 Final Exams is from May 13, 2024, to May 18, 2024.
24. The last day of the Spring 2024 semester is May 24, 2024.
