Boise State University is transitioning to Canvas, a new Learning Management System (LMS). Canvas is robust and easy to use and replaces Blackboard LMS.

The university decided to move to Canvas LMS, after a lengthy review that included a Spring 2020 pilot, usability testing, and other feedback from the Boise State community.

The Idaho State Board of Education has agreed to fund Canvas for all state higher education institutions.

Access your Canvas class content in myBoiseState by navigating to;

  1. Student View > My Schedule
  2. Select the term.
  3. Click the Canvas logo to the right of your class.

The migration from Blackboard to Canvas is underway and it is expected to fully migrate to Canvas for Fall 2021 classes.

How to set up your myBoiseState account

Once your registration has been processed, you will receive an email containing your Boise State ID number and username. You will need these two items to set your password to access myBoiseState and your Boise State email account.

New students will also receive this information by mail in an admissions letter from the Boise State Admissions Office.

Email for students is accessed via Google Apps or “BroncoMail” through myBoiseState.

BroncoMail provides access to dozens of Google applications including Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Google Sites, and YouTube. Communication and updates regarding your Boise State courses will be sent through your BroncoMail account.

How to reset myBoiseState password

Your password will need to be reset every 90 days. Email notifications are sent when your Boise State account password is about to expire.

You will receive up to two reminder emails. The first is sent 5 days in advance of your password expiring. The second arrives within 48 hours of expiration if you haven’t yet updated your password.

These emails are simply courtesy reminders and are not phishing attempts.

  1. Go to my.boisestate.edu and click the Log In button.
  2. Click Reset/Create Password.
  3. You will need your username or your Student ID number.
  4. If you are already logged in to myBoiseState, select the dropdown arrow next to your name at upper-right, then choose Change Password.

If your password is intruder-locked (e.g., ten failed attempts have locked the account), you can wait 30 minutes for the account to automatically unlock and try again.

For additional information about resetting your Boise State password or for assistance enrolling in the password recovery tool, visit the OIT Help Desk website or call the Help Desk at (208) 426-4357.

Password recovery tool

Boise State’s password recovery tool allows you to reset your password 24/7, eliminating the need to provide sensitive data to the Help Desk for identity verification.

The password recovery tool requires enrollment: You will need to provide and verify a personal email address (not your Boise State email address) or cell phone number. This information is used to confirm your identity when a password reset is requested.

To enroll in the password recovery tool;

  1. Navigate to reset.boisestate.edu or click the Reset/Create Password link on the myBoiseState login page.
  2. Sign in using your Boise State username and password.
  3. On the Enrollment tab, click the link to Add Email or Add mobile number (or both). Note: If you already have a “home” email address listed in PeopleSoft, it has been automatically imported into the tool. Please verify this address is correct or add a different email address. The email address you provide should be something other than your Boise State email. You’ll want to make sure you can access the email if you get locked out of your Boise State account!
  4. A verification code will be sent to the email or mobile number provided. Enter the code in the field provided.
  5. Once enrollment is complete, sign out using the account drop-down menu.

If you have already enrolled and are locked out of your account or need to reset your password when it expires;

  1. Navigate to reset.boisestate.edu or click the Reset/Create Password link on the myBoiseState login page.
  2. Click the Reset Password link.
  3. Enter your Boise State username and select Continue.
