Tufts Academic Calendar 2023-2024: Important Dates

Tufts University is on a semester system. All undergraduates (except REAL students) are expected to carry a full course load (four to five courses each semester), except in cases of serious, documented health conditions.

Full-time status at Tufts is defined as attempting a minimum of 12 Semester-hour units (SHUs) in a semester. After completing Tufts’ residency requirement of eight semesters of full-time study, you may choose to graduate or enrol part-time in either your final or penultimate semester.

1. Fall 2023 registration starts for AS rising seniors, Juniors, and Sophomores in SIS from April 20, 2023, to April 24, 2023.
2. Tufts Continuing AS&E Student Registration Closes on August 17, 2023, by 11:59 pm.
3. Registration reopens for all students at 12 a.m. on August 28, 2023.
4. New Student Orientation and Matriculation begin on August 30, 2023.
5. Labor Day (University Holiday) is September 4, 2023. There are No Classes.
6. The last day for undergraduate AS&E students to submit a request to be enrolled part-time is September 4, 2023, by 11:59 pm.
7. Tufts Fall 2023 classes start on September 5, 2023. It is the first day of classes for fall 2023.
8. The last day for AS&E students to ADD classes is September 12, 2023, by 11:59 pm.
9. Veterans’ Day (University Holiday) is November 10, 2023. There are no classes.
10. The Last Day for Undergraduate AS&E students to WITHDRAW from Courses is November 14, 2023, by 11:59 pm. Through this date, Undergraduate First-Year Students may DROP Courses without a Record of Enrollment; all others receive a Grade of W upon withdrawing after the 5-week drop deadline.
11. The Last Day for Undergraduates to Select the PASS/FAIL Option is November 14, 2023, by 11:59 pm.
12. Tufts Thanksgiving break 2023 (University Holiday) is from November 22, 2023, to November 24, 2023.
13. Fall 2023 classes end on December 11, 2023.
14. The Last Day for Graduate AS&E Students to WITHDRAW from Courses and Receive a Grade of W is December 11, 2023.
15. Reading Periods are December 12, 2023, and December 13, 2023.
16. Final Examinations are from December 14, 2023, to December 21, 2023.
17. Tufts winter break 2023 is from December 22, 2023 to January 16, 2023.
18. Fall 2023 Term Grades are Due Online by 9 a.m. on January 3, 2024.
19. The last day for AS&E students to make up incomplete grades from Fall 2023 is February 28, 2024.

1. Martin Luther King Day Holiday January 16, 2023.
2. Tufts Spring Classes begin on January 18, 2023.

4. Presidents’ Day Holiday is February 20, 2023.
5. February 22, 2023 is the last day for AS&E students to DROP courses without record of enrollment.
6. Tufts Spring break 2023 begins on March 18, 2023 to March 26, 2023.
7. Classes Resume after Spring break on March 27, 2023.
8. April 5, 2023 is the last day for Undergraduate AS&E Students to WITHDRAW from Courses and Receive a Grade of W.
9. April 5, 2023 is the last day for Undergraduates to Select PASS/FAIL Option
10. Make-up Day is April 5, 2023. No classes on this day according to the Tufts academic calendar.
11. Patriots’ Day observed Holiday is April 17 2023.
12. Classes end on May 1 2023
13. May 1 2023 is the last day for Graduate AS&E Students to WITHDRAW from Courses and Receive a Grade of W.
14. Reading Period is May 2 2023 to May 4 2023.
15. Review Boards begin on May 4 2023 to May 12 2023.
16. Final Examinations begin on May 5 2023 to May 12 2023.
17. Spring Term Grades are due online on May 15 2023 by 9 a.m. (48 hours after final) for Degree Candidates.
18. Senior Week begins on May 15 2023 to May 19 2023 on Tufts academic calendar.
19. The remaining grades are due online on May 19 2023 by 9 a.m.
20. Tufts Commencement/graduation 2023 is on May 21, 2023.
21. Memorial Day Holiday is May 29, 2023.

When some days fall on a Sunday, the holiday will be observed on the following Monday; when they fall on a Saturday, the holiday will be observed on the previous Friday.
