UF Apps for Students: How to Access and Download [2023]

UF Apps login guide

UF Apps is a great tool to access applications you do not personally own nor able to install on your own device.

Many expensive computer programs are free for UF students through UF Apps.

The list of apps ranges from Photoshop (and other Adobe products) to Grammarly. By using these applications through the Citrix Receiver, you will have access to a fully-featured set of applications with a native-like feel.

UFApps provides University of Florida students access to software applications from any device; laptops, tablets, desktops, and smartphones from any location, at any time.

The project began as a one-year pilot project provided by UFIT and funded by students through a student technology fee project. Due to overwhelmingly positive feedback, UFApps have become a full production UFIT service for students and faculty.

UF apps M drive

The UF Apps M drive is a scratch space to save the files you use with UFApps. Each UF Apps user automatically gets access to the M drive with a 10 GB per user quota.

Check out: UF One Login Guide and UF Academic Calendar.

Why should you use the M Drive?

Because it provides the best performance when working with files in UFApps.

Let’s say you’re using Excel in UFApps, and you want to open up a large spreadsheet. If the file is stored on your local device, it has to travel all the way through the cloud to get to UFApps servers and can be very slow.

The M: Drive, however, is actually part of UFApps itself. So, the files you keep there will load much faster, saving you valuable time.

M drive quota

Each M: Drive has a 10 GB quota per user. When you reach your quota limit, you will no longer be able to create or modify files in your M: Drive. It may also cause some applications to fail when you launch them.

UF makes every effort to proactively notify you before you run out of space on your M: Drive. If your M: Drive has less than 10% free space available, a notification will be displayed when you launch an application in UF Apps.

What to do if your M: Drive storage is low:

  • Open the M: Drive application
  • In the left column, select “StudentFileStorage (M:)”
  • Locate any unnecessary files that can be removed
  • Use Kumo to move completed projects/files to the UF OneDrive for Business.

How to use adobe products on UF Apps

Adobe products including Photoshop is discounted for Students UF student in special pricing on a one-year subscription to the entire Adobe Creative Cloud Suite.

Using Adobe products on UFApps is beneficial for on-the-go students. All you need is an internet connection! Adobe@UFApps ensures anywhere, anytime access on all your devices.

  1. You will be able to log in to UFApps and use Adobe applications within 24 hours of purchasing an Adobe subscription through the On-the-Hub portal.
  2. To ensure a smooth experience, make sure the files you are working with are stored on the M: drive rather than your local hard drive.
  3. This greatly improves the performance of the applications when editing or creating new content.
  4. Once you are finished working with the files, you can download the content back to your local device’s hard drive.

UF apps not working?

UF Apps works flawlessly, but there are a lot of ones and zeros flying around and the odds are that at least one person will have a problem.

From time to time, you may experience unexpected or new issues in UFApps, like a new screen display or momentary slowness.

This may be a result of new programs or enhancements being made in response to student feedback; or because of extremely high usage of UF Apps.

If an issue arises or you would like to be personally taught how to save, download or upload a document using UF Apps, contact or visit the Technical Assistance Center in Heavener Hall, room 206.
