UWaterloo Important Dates 2024-2025: Waterloo Calendar Dates

The UWaterloo Important Dates is a guide for the University of Waterloo students to know semester start dates, registration dates, add/drop dates, holidays, reading weeks, exam dates, other important academic dates, and deadlines.

At the University of Waterloo, the academic year is divided into three terms, each lasting four months. The Fall semester is from September to December, the Winter semester is from January to April, and the Spring semester is from May to August. There are about 12 weeks of classes followed by roughly two or three weeks of exams.

5. Drop/Add Period Appointments for returning students are from July 22 to July 23, 2024.
6. Add Period begins (open enrollment) on July 24, 2024.
7. Opt out of optional/voluntary fees deadline is August 20, 2024.
8. Fall 2024 Tuition and fees are due on August 20, 2024.
9. Fees Arranged Extension fees begin on August 21, 2024.
10. Labour Day holiday is Monday, September 2, 2024.

6. Not Fees Arranged (NFA) holds are applied on January 17, 2025.

21. Good Friday 2025 is April 18, 2025.
22. Winter 2025 Grades begin to appear in Quest on April 26, 2025. Registered students can view their unofficial term grades in Quest.

UWaterloo reading week 2024

UWaterloo Reading Week 2024 is from Sunday, October 12, 2024 to Sunday, October 20, 2024. All classes are cancelled, offices are closed on the weekends and on holiday Monday. Reading weeks occur in the fall and winter terms; they start with the Saturday before the public holidays of Thanksgiving Day and Family Day and end on the following Sunday.

During UWaterloo reading week, normal class schedules and academic requirements are suspended for a specified period of time. Classes resume after reading week on Monday, October 21, 2024.

1. View next term’s schedule and appointments starting from November 16, 2023.
2. The Drop/Add Period begins on November 16, 2023, with individualized Quest appointment times.
3. The first day of the Drop/Add Period where all undergraduate students have equal access to make changes to their term class schedule (add, drop, swap) in Quest is on November 20, 2023.
4. Tuition and fees are due by November 22, 2023. Pay in full or become “Fees Arranged”; a Fees Arranged Extension fee applies after this date.
5. The deadline to opt out of optional/voluntary fees is December 14, 2023. See how to opt out of optional or voluntary fees in Quest.
6. Fees Arranged Extension fees begin on December 14, 2023. See Student Financial Services website for Fees Arranged Extension fee amounts by date.
7. No classes and offices are closed on December 15, 2023, for the University holiday closure.
8. Classes for Winter 2024 start on January 1, 2024. Laurier may have a different schedule.
9. Co-operative work term begins on January 8, 2024. Actual dates may vary depending on employer or student requirements.
10. Reserves on most classes will be removed on January 8, 2024, opening remaining spaces to all students.
11. The Add Period ends on January 15, 2024. Last day to add a class.
12. Not Fees Arranged (NFA) holds are applied to students who are not yet Fees Arranged for the term on January 19, 2024. Undergraduate students can find out more about how this hold will impact their course registration process for future terms.
13. The tuition and fee refund deadline for 100% is on January 20, 2024.
14. The Drop Period ends on January 26, 2024. Classes dropped prior to or on this day will be removed from the academic record. See how to drop a class in Quest.
15. Drop with WD begins on January 26, 2024. WD (Withdrew, no credit granted) grade is assigned for class(es) dropped during this period.
16. The tuition and fee refund deadline for 50% is on January 27, 2024. See Student Financial Services website.
17. Reading Week is scheduled from February 16, 2024, to February 25, 2024. All classes are cancelled; offices are closed on the weekends and the holiday Monday.
18. Family Day is observed from February 17, 2024, to February 25, 2024. All classes are cancelled, and offices are closed.
19. The application to Graduate is due on February 19, 2024. Complete an Application to Graduate for the June convocation ceremony (undergraduate students).
20. Drop with WD ends on March 1, 2024. Last day to drop a class and receive a WD (Withdrew, no credit granted) grade.
21. Drop with WF begins on March 22, 2024. WF (Withdrew/Failure, no credit granted, value 32) grade is assigned for class(es) dropped during this period. Engineering students should visit course load and withdrawal in the Undergraduate Calendar for specific regulations.
22. Good Friday is observed on March 23, 2024. All classes are cancelled, and offices are closed.
23. Classes end on March 29, 2024. Laurier may have a different schedule – visit their website for applicable end dates.
24. The loss of a Friday class on March 29 will be made up by following a Friday schedule on April 8, 2024.
25. Pre-examination study days are scheduled from April 9, 2024, to April 10, 2024.
26. Drop with WF ends on April 10, 2024. Last day to drop a class without a petition and receive a WF (Withdrew/Failure, no credit granted, value 32) grade.
27. Final examinations begin on April 10, 2024. First day of the Final Examination Period.
28. In-person exam days for online courses are on April 11, 2024, April 14, 2024, and April 17, 2024, as per Winter 2024 term dates.
29. Final examination emergency days are from April 12, 2024, to April 20, 2024. Dates reserved to hold final examinations in the event the University is closed during the Winter 2024 Final Examination Period: Examinations will be rescheduled on the next available day, including Sunday, on which examinations have not been scheduled.
30. Final examinations end on April 21, 2024. Last day of the Final Examination Period.
31. Co-operative work term ends on April 25, 2024. Actual dates may vary depending on employer or student requirements.
32. Grades begin to appear in Quest on April 26, 2024. Registered students can view their unofficial term grades in Quest. Note: Not all grades will be available on this date.
33. Standing decisions and official grades are available in Quest on April 27, 2024. Registered students can view their official and complete term grades, along with academic standing, in Quest.
