VCU Academic Calendar 2023-2024: Important Dates

5. 12-Month Residence Hall Move-in for Ackell Residence Center, Broad & Belvidere, Grace & Broad, West Grace North begins on Monday, August 7, 2023, and ends on Sunday, August 20, 2023. Check out myVCU portal.
6. RAM CAMP Move-in day for those attending RAMP CAMP in Gladding Residence Center is Monday, August 14, 2023.
7. 9-Month Residence Hall Move-in days for Gladding Residence Center, Gladding Residence Center III, Honors, Roads, Brandt, West Grace South, Cary & Belvidere are Thursday, August 17, 2023 (Move-In Day 1), Friday, August 18, 2023 (Move-In Day 2), and Saturday, August 19, 2023 (Move-In Day 3).
8. New Student Convocation is on Monday, August 21, 2023.
9. VCU Fall 2023 classes begin on Tuesday, August 22, 2023. It is VCU’s first day of Fall classes 2023. MCV campus students follow departmental schedules.
10. Add/drop and late registration is from Tuesday, August 22, 2023 to Monday, August 28, 2023.
11. Faculty Convocation is on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 according to the VCU academic calendar 2023-2024.
12. Wednesday, August 30, 2023 is the deadline for dean/departmental offices to submit all approved undergraduate change of major requests effective for the fall 2023 semester.
13. Friday, September 1, 2023 is the deadline for students to provide advance written notification to instructors of intent to observe religious holidays according to the VCU academic calendar 2023-2024.
14. Labor Day holiday is Monday, September 4, 2023 on the VCU holiday calendar 2023.
15. Friday, September 8, 2023 is the last day for fall degree candidates to submit graduation applications for December degrees.
16. September Miniterm classes begin on Monday, September 11, 2023.
17. The last day to add/drop September Miniterm is Tuesday, September 12, 2023.

20. September Miniterm classes end on Friday, October 13, 2023. It is the last day to withdraw from September Miniterm classes or choose the Pass/Fail option.
21. Reading day is Friday, October 20, 2023. No classes are held for Monroe Park campus students.
22. Fall Midterm grades are due on Friday, October 20, 2023, according to VCU academic calendar.
23. October Miniterm classes begin on Monday, October 23, 2023. The last day to add/drop October Miniterm is Tuesday, October 24, 2023.
24. Friday, October 27, 2023 is the last day to withdraw from a course with a mark of “W” for both campuses except for courses not scheduled for the full semester.
25. The deadline to request the Pass/Fail option for courses is Friday, October 27, 2023.
26. Virginia Commonwealth University closes on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 on the VCU holiday calendar.
27. Veterans Day is Friday, November 10, 2023. University open. Classes are in Session.
28. Fall Miniterm classes end on Friday, November 17, 2023. It is the last day to withdraw from Fall Miniterm classes or choose the Pass/Fail option.
29. VCU Fall break 2023 is from Monday, November 20, 2023 to Sunday, November 26, 2023. This is the same period as Thanksgiving break for VCU students. During the VCU Fall break, Virginia Commonwealth University offices are open from November 20 and close on November 22 at 12 p.m. Monroe Park campus and MCV campus students follow departmental schedule. Classes resume after fall break on Monday, November 27, 2023.
30. October Miniterm classes end on Friday, December 1, 2023. It is the last day to withdraw from October Miniterm classes or choose the Pass/Fail option according to VCU academic calendar.
31. December School and Departmental commencement ceremonies are held from Thursday, December 7, 2023 to Sunday, December 10, 2023.
32. The last day of classes for MCV campus students is Friday, December 8, 2023.
33. December universitywide commencement ceremony is held on Saturday, December 9, 2023.
34. The last day of classes for VCU Monroe Park Campus students is Monday, December 11, 2023.
35. The final examination period for MCV campus is from Monday, December 11, 2023 to Friday, December 15, 2023.
36. Final examinations for VCU Monroe Park campus is from Tuesday, December 12, 2023 to Tuesday, December 19, 2023.
37. Friday, December 15, 2023 is the final deadline to submit all materials for thesis/dissertation to the Graduate School, including the ETD form, upload of thesis/dissertation to VCU Scholars Compass, and Survey of Earned Doctorates (for Ph.D. students only).
38. Fall 2023 final grades are due by noon using Faculty eServices on Wednesday, December 20, 2023.
39. VCU winter break 2023 is from Friday, December 22, 2023 to Monday, January 15, 2024.
40. Virginia Commonwealth University is closed from Sunday, December 24, 2023 to Monday, January 1, 2024.
41. Saturday, December 23, 2023 is the official date for certifying December diplomas.
42. Friday, December 29 2023 is the deadline for students to provide advance written notification to instructors of intent to observe religious holidays – holiday intersession and January Term according to the VCU academic calendar 2023-2024.

1. VCU Spring 2024 classes start on January 16, 2024. MCV campus students should follow the departmental schedule.
2. Add/drop and late registration period is from January 16, 2024, to January 22, 2024.
3. Progress reports are due for undergraduate students in need of academic support (date change) from January 23, 2024, to February 12, 2024.
4. The deadline for dean/departmental offices to submit all approved undergraduate change of major requests effective for the spring 2024 semester is January 24, 2024.
5. The last day for degree candidates to submit graduation applications for May degrees is January 26, 2024, and it’s also the deadline for students to provide advance written notification to instructors of intent to observe religious holidays.
6. February 5, 2024, marks the beginning of February Miniterm classes, with the last day to add/drop February 6, 2024.
7. VCU Spring 2024 Miniterm classes begin on February 19, 2024, with the last day to add/drop is February 20, 2024.
8. VCU Spring Break 2024 is from March 3, 2024, to March 10, 2024. Virginia Commonwealth University spring break 2024 is for both campuses.
9. On March 15, 2024, February Miniterm classes end (last day to withdraw from February Miniterm classes or choose the Pass/Fail option).
10. March Miniterm classes begin on March 18, 2024, with the last day to add/drop is March 19, 2024.
11. Spring 2024 Midterm grades are due on March 22, 2024 (date change).
12. Fall 2024 semester advance registration begins on March 26, 2024, according to VCU academic calendar 2024-2025.
13. The last day to withdraw from a course with a mark of “W” for both campuses (except for courses not scheduled for the full semester) (date change) is March 29, 2024. It is also the deadline to request the Pass/Fail option for courses (date change).
14. Spring 2024 Miniterm classes end on April 19, 2024 (the last day to withdraw from Spring Miniterm classes or choose the Pass/Fail option).
15. March Miniterm classes end on April 19, 2024 (the last day to withdraw from March Miniterm classes or choose the Pass/Fail option).
16. The last day of classes on the Monroe Park campus is April 30, 2024.
17. May 1, 2024, is designated a reading day on the Monroe Park campus.
18. Final examinations on the Monroe Park campus are scheduled from May 2, 2024, to May 9, 2024.
19. The last day of classes on the MCV campus is May 3, 2024.
20. The last day for grades of incomplete to be converted from the fall semester is May 4, 2024, accroding to VCU academic calendar 2023-2024.
21. Final examinations on the MCV campus are set for May 6, 2024, to May 10, 2024.
22. School and departmental commencement ceremonies are scheduled from May 9, 2024, to May 12, 2024.
23. VCU Graduation 2024 and university-wide commencement ceremony is on May 11, 2024.
24. VCU Spring 2024 final grades are due by noon using Faculty eServices on May 14, 2024.
25. May 18, 2024, is the official date for certifying May diplomas.
