RIT Academic Calendar 2023-2024: Important Dates and Deadlines

The RIT academic calendar is a critical resource for Rochester Institute of Technology students, faculty, and staff. It outlines the dates for important events throughout the year, such as the start and end of semesters, holidays, and breaks. 

It also provides information about registration deadlines, class schedules, and other important academic dates.

The RIT 2023-2024 academic calendar is divided into fall and spring semesters. The fall semester begins in September and ends in December. The spring semester starts in January and ends in May.

Each quarter is 10 weeks long, with an additional week for final exams. RIT also offers a few shorter “mini-mesters” throughout the year, which are typically 3-4 weeks long and cover specialized topics.

RIT academic calendar fall 2023

RIT Students should be aware of many important dates and events on the RIT academic calendar for fall 2023. 

1. RIT Fall 2023 classes start on Monday, August 28, 2023. It is RIT’s first day of classes in fall 2023. Day, evening, and online classes begin. 
2. The first day of the RIT Add/Drop period is Monday, August 28, 2023.
3. Saturday classes start on Saturday, September 2, 2023.
4. Labor Day falls on Monday, September 4, 2023, and no classes will occur.
5. The last day of the RIT Add/Drop period is Tuesday, September 5, 2023.
6. The first day to drop from classes with a ” W ” grade is Wednesday, September 6, 2023.
7. RIT Fall Break 2023 takes place from Monday, October 9, 2023, to Tuesday, October 10, 2023, and there will be no classes during this period. Classes will resume on Wednesday, October 11, 2023.
8. The last day to drop from classes with a ” W ” grade is Friday, November 10, 2023.
9. There will be no classes on November 22, 2023, as the University closes at 2 p.m.
10. RIT Thanksgiving Break 2023 is observed from November Thursday, November 23, to Friday, November 24, 2023. The University will be closed.
11. Monday, December 11, 2023, marks the last day of evening and online classes. It is RIT’s last day of classes in Fall 2023.
12. Tuesday, December 12, 2023, is designated as Reading Day.
13. RIT’s final exam schedule for Fall 2023 is from Wednesday, December 13, 2023, to Wednesday, December 20, 2023.
14. The final grades are due on Friday, December 22, 2023.
15. There will be RIT Winter break 2023 between Fall Semester and Spring Semester from Saturday, December 21, 2023, to Monday, January 15, 2024.

RIT academic calendar spring 2024

RIT Students should know many important dates and events on the RIT academic calendar for spring 2024. 

1. Martin Luther King Jr. Day (No classes) will be observed on Monday, January 15, 2024.
2. RIT Spring 2024 classes start on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. Day, evening, and online classes will begin on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. 
3. RIT’s first day of Add/Drop period is Tuesday, January 16, 2024. 
4. Saturday classes will start on Saturday, January 20, 2024.
5. RIT’s last day of the Add/Drop period is Tuesday, January 23, 2024.
6. The first day to drop from classes with a ” W ” grade is Wednesday, January 24, 2024.
7. RIT Spring Break 2024 is from Sunday, March 10, 2024, to Sunday, March 17, 2024. There will be no classes during this period. Classes resume on Monday, March 18, 2024.
8. The last day to drop from classes with a ” W ” grade is Friday, April 5, 2024.
9. Monday, April 29, 2024, marks the last day of evening and online classes. It is RIT’s last day of classes in Spring 2024.
10. Tuesday, April 30, 2024, is designated as Reading Day.
11. RIT’s final exam schedule for Spring 2024 is from Wednesday, May 1, 2024, to Wednesday, May 8, 2024.
12. Friday, May 10, 2024, is the deadline for final grades.
13. RIT Graduation 2024, Convocation and Commencement ceremonies will occur on Friday, May 10, and Saturday, May 11, 2024.
14. There will be a break between Spring Semester and Summer Term from May 12 to May 15, 2024.
