FSU Academic Calendar 2023-2024: Important Dates

The FSU Academic Calendar is published once each semester, and it contains important dates for registration, fees, graduation, and other academic deadlines. 

The Florida State University Academic Calendar shows the semester’s beginning and ending dates, legal holidays, admission, readmission, non-degree, and short application deadlines for 2023-2024.

Florida State University operates on a semester system. The academic year is divided into two semesters: Fall semester, which typically starts in late August and ends in mid-December, and Spring semester, which typically starts in early January and ends in early May. There is also a summer session, which is divided into two shorter terms: Summer A and Summer B.

FSU Academic Calendar Fall 2023

Check out the important dates and deadlines on the FSU academic calendar for the Fall semester of 2023.

1. FSU Fall 2023 Registration for currently enrolled and readmitted degree-seeking students begins from March 6, 2023, to May 12, 2023, according to the FSU academic calendar 2023-2024.
2. Registration re-opens for currently enrolled and readmitted degree-seeking students from July 17, 2023, to August 11, 2023.
3. The last day for community college and FSU students to submit Fall 2023 transient applications is August 1, 2023.
4. FSU move-in day fall 2023 appointments will occur from Friday, August 11, 2023, to Sunday, August 20, 2023. You will receive a Sign Up Genius link specific to your building. This link will be emailed to your FSU email account. You must use your FSU email (@fsu.edu) to schedule your move-in appointment.
5. The last day to submit waivers or billings for Financial Aid Early Disbursement is August 17, 2023, according to the FSU academic calendar 2023-2024.
6. Fall 2023 Only/Annual Health Insurance coverage begins on August 15, 2023.
7. Residence Halls open at 9:00 a.m. on August 18, 2023.
8. Financial Aid Early Disbursement is available via EFT from federal, private, and institutional aid on August 22, 2023.
9. FSU Fall 2023 Drop/Add is from August 26, 2023, to August 31, 2023 (Includes College of Law.) Begins at 12:01 a.m. on August 26 and ends at 11:59 p.m. on August 31.
10. New Student Convocation at FSU main campus and at the Panama City Campus, Holley Academic Center, is on August 27, 2023.
11. FSU Fall 2023 classes start on August 28, 2023. It is the first day of classes for the fall semester of 2023.
12. The last day to file for a change in residency status is August 28, 2023, according to the FSU academic calendar 2023-2024.
13. Late Registration ($100.00 late registration fee) is from August 28, 2023, to August 31, 2023.
14. The Fourth Day of Classes is August 31, 2023. It is the last day to drop/add and have fees adjusted. Students are liable for all fees for classes remaining on their schedules at 11:59 p.m.
15. The last day to cancel enrollment and have fees removed is August 31, 2023.
16. The last day to add a class without the academic dean’s permission is August 31, 2023.
17. The Fifth Day of Classes is September 1, 2023. It is the last day to request VA deferment from a VA representative at the Student Veterans Center, according to the FSU academic calendar 2023-2024.
18. The last day to submit department waivers or billings is September 1, 2023.
19. Labor Day holiday is September 4, 2023. There are No Classes.
20. FSU Fall 2023 Graduation Application Period is September 4, 2023, to September 15, 2023. Apply online at https://my.fsu.edu.
21. The first day to apply for financial aid deferments and delayed delivery loans is September 6, 2023.
22. The last day to pay or defer tuition, housing, or fees for all students, including veterans who are not using a veteran deferment, without a $100.00 late fee is September 8, 2023. Veterans should contact a VA representative with questions.
23. The last day to request a change to or cancellation of Fall-Only or Annual Student Health Insurance is September 15, 2023.
24. Open enrollment for Fall-Only and Annual Health Insurance ends on September 15, 2023.
25. Non-payment-of-tuition schedule cancellations are processed for students without a tuition deferment on September 18, 2023.
26. Open enrollment for Spring Health Insurance begins on October 2, 2023.
27. Financial Aid deferments expire on October 6, 2023. Full tuition payment must be received to avoid a late payment fee.
28. The final payment deadline for two-payment installment contracts is October 6, 2023.
29. FSU Family Weekend is from October 6, 2023, to October 8, 2023.
30. The end of the Seventh Week of the Term is October 13, 2023. It is the last day to submit a form requesting S/U grading or to change the S/U option back to a regular grade, according to the FSU academic calendar 2023-2024.
31. The last day to reduce course load without the permission of the academic dean is October 13, 2023. Dean’s permission is however required to drop below 12 credit hours.
32. The last day to drop a course without receiving a grade is October 13, 2023.
33. The last day to withdraw from school without receiving a grade is October 13, 2023.
34. The last day to petition to reinstate the class schedule canceled for nonpayment of tuition is October 13, 2023.
35. The last day for doctoral students to take and pass their preliminary examination to add or convert dissertation hours for the current semester, according to the FSU academic calendar 2023-2024.
36. Non-payment-of-tuition schedule cancellations are processed for students who had deferments that expired on October 16, 2023.
37. FSU Homecoming 2023 is from October 20, 2023, to October 22, 2023. There are no Classes after 1:00 p.m.
38. The last day to submit a doctoral dissertation or treatise for pre-defense format review is October 30, 2023.
39. The final payment deadline for students on a three-payment installment plan is November 6, 2023.
40. Veterans’ Day Observed is November 10, 2023. The are no classes.
41. The end of the Eleventh Week of the Term is November 10, 2023. It is the deadline for FAMU-FSU College of Engineering’s late drop with the dean’s permission, according to the FSU academic calendar 2023-2024.
42. The last day to submit the master’s thesis for pre-defense format review is November 13, 2023.
43. The end of the Twelfth Week of the Term is November 17, 2023.
44. The deadline for a late drop with the dean’s permission is November 17, 2023.
45. FSU Thanksgiving break 2023 is from Wednesday, November 22, 2023, to Sunday, November 26, 2023. Classes resume on Monday, November 27, 2023
46. The last day for submission of the post-defense, final content-approved thesis, dissertation, or treatise and required forms is November 27, 2023, according to the FSU academic calendar 2023-2024.
47. The final payment deadline for students on a four-payment installment plan is December 6, 2023.
48. The last day of fall 2023 classes is December 8, 2023.
49. The last day to petition the academic dean for a reduction in course load is December 8, 2023.
50. The last day to officially withdraw from the University is December 8, 2023.
51. The last day to apply for AA Degree at the Office of Undergraduate Studies, UCA 3400 is December 8, 2023.
52. Veteran’s Deferments expire on December 8, 2023. Full tuition payment must be received to avoid a late payment fee.
53. FSU Fall 2023 final exam week is from December 11, 2023, to December 15, 2023.
54. FSU Fall 2023 Term Ends on December 15, 2023, according to the FSU academic calendar 2023-2024.
55. The last day to submit extensions for incomplete (I) grades by 4:00 p.m. on December 15, 2023.
56. FSU Fall 2023 Commencement is on December 15, 2023. Doctoral Commencement is at 9:00 a.m. Bachelor, Master, and Specialist Commencement is at 2:00 p.m. and at 7:00 p.m.
57. FSU Residence Halls close at noon on December 16, 2023.FUS Online Grades are due by 4:00 p.m. on December 19, 2023. Grades are available online on December 20, 2023.

FSU academic calendar spring 2024

Check out the important dates and deadlines on the FSU academic calendar for the Spring semester of 2024.

1. The Spring 2024 Registration Guide is available on September 25, 2023.
2. Open enrollment for spring/summer health insurance begins during this period from October 9, 2023, to December 22, 2023, according to FSU academic calendar 2023-2024.
3. Community college and FSU students must submit their Spring 2024 transient applications by December 1, 2023.
4. New graduate students can register between December 11, 2023, and January 11, 2024.
5. The spring/summer health insurance begins on January 1, 2024.
6. Residence halls open at 5:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024. It is FSU Spring 2024 move in day.
7. Early disbursement of financial aid is available via EFT from January 5, 2024.
8. The Drop/Add period, including the College of Law, begins from January 6 to January 11, 2024, according to FSU academic calendar 2024.
9. The Spring 2024 term starts on January 8, 2024, and it’s the last day to file for a change in residency status.
10. Late registration with a $100.00 fee is available from January 8 to January 11, 2024.
11. January 11, 2024, marks the fourth day of the semester and the last day to add a class without the academic dean’s permission.
12. The fifth day of the semester, January 12, 2024, is the last day to submit waivers or billings and to request VA deferments from the VA representative in Student Veterans Affairs.
13. January 15, 2024, is the last day for open enrollment for spring/summer health insurance and the last day to request a change to or cancellation of the purchase of student health insurance coverage.
14. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day falls on January 15, 2024, with no classes and the university closed.
15. The Spring 2024 graduation application period is open from January 16 to January 26, 2024, and students can apply online at https://my.fsu.edu.
16. Students can apply for financial aid deferment and delayed delivery loans starting from January 17, 2024, according to FSU academic calendar 2024.
17. The tuition and fee payment deadline is January 19, 2024, and veterans should contact a VA representative with questions.
18. January 26, 2024, is the last day to apply for Spring 2024 graduation, and students can apply online at https://my.fsu.edu.
19. Non-payment-of-tuition scheduled cancellations are processed for students without a tuition deferment on January 29, 2024.
20. The end of the 7th week of the semester is marked on February 23, 2024, which is the deadline for various academic activities and financial obligations.
21. Fall and Summer 2024 Registration Guides become available on February 26, 2024, along with the course listings on the Course Lookup system.
22. The registration period for Summer and Fall 2024 begins on March 4, 2024, with non-payment-of-tuition schedule cancellations processed for students with expired deferments.
23. Residence halls close for Spring Break on March 9, 2024, at 12:00 p.m.
24. FSU Spring Break 2024 is from March 11, 2024, to March 15, 2024. The Florida State University observes Spring Break from March 11, 2024, to March 15, 2024, with no classes and the university remaining open. Residence halls open after the FSU Spring Break on March 17, 2024, at 12:00 p.m.
25. March 18, 2024, is the last day to submit a doctoral dissertation or treatise for pre-defense format review.
26. March 25, 2024, is the last day to submit a master’s thesis for pre-defense format review, according to FSU academic calendar 2023-2024.
27. The 11th week of the semester ends on March 29, 2024, and it is the deadline for FAMU-FSU College of Engineering late drop with the dean’s permission.
28. The 12th week of the semester ends on April 5, 2024, and it is the deadline for late drop with the dean’s permission for all colleges except Engineering.
29. April 8, 2024, is the last day to submit post-defense, final-content-approved thesis, dissertation, or treatise and required forms.
30. April 26, 2024, marks the last Day of Classes and the last day to petition the academic dean for a reduction in the course load.
31. April 30, 2024, is the last day for thesis, dissertation, and treatise students to receive official final clearance in the manuscript clearance portal.
32. Spring 2024 Final Exam Week is from April 29 to May 3, 2024.
33. The term ends on May 3, 2024, and it is the last day to submit extensions for ‘incomplete’ grades and ServScript hours online by 4:00 p.m.
34. Residence halls close at 12:00 p.m. on May 4, 2024. FSU Spring 2024 commencement occurs at the Civic Center on May 4, 2024.
35. Diplomas are dated May 4, 2024, and the residence halls close at noon.
36. Panama City Commencement occurs on May 5, 2024, with the time and location to be announced.
37. Online grades are due by 4:00 p.m. on May 7, 2024. Grades become available online on May 8, 2024, according to FSU academic calendar 2023-2024.
38. The summer-only health insurance plan coverage begins on May 10, 2024, for new summer admits only.
