Syracuse Academic Calendar 2023-2024: Important Dates

The Syracuse academic calendar lists important dates and deadlines for the fall and spring semesters, as well as summer sessions. Here you’ll find all registration dates, course schedules, financial deadlines, and degree award dates.

Syracuse University operates a semester system, consisting of Fall, Spring, and Summer. Each semester is around 15 weeks long.

3. Syracuse Welcome takes place from Saturday, August 26, to Sunday, August 27, 2023.
4. The first day of Fall 2023 classes, including Extended Campus Classes, is Monday, August 28, 2023.
5. Late registration and schedule adjustment continue from Monday, August 28, to Tuesday, September 5, 2023.
6. Labor Day (no residential classes, University offices closed) is observed on Monday, September 4, 2023.
7. The add deadline is Tuesday, September 5, 2023.
8. Early-semester progress reports are from Monday, September 11, to Friday, September 15, 2023.
9. The academic/financial deadline to drop a class is Monday, September 18, 2023.
10. Grading option deadlines to elect or rescind audit/pass/fail, as well as the religious observance notification deadline, are on Monday, September 18, 2023.
11. Syracuse Fall Break 2023, excluding LAW (no residential classes), is observed on Monday, October 9, and Tuesday, October 10, 2023.
12. The midterm is on Wednesday, October 18, 2023.
13. Mid-semester progress reports are from Thursday, October 19, to Thursday, October 26, 2023.
14. Registration for Winterlude and Spring 2024 is from Wednesday, November 8, to Thursday, December 21, 2023.
15. Syracuse Thanksgiving Break 2023 (no residential classes, University offices open Monday through Wednesday) is from Sunday, November 19, to Sunday, November 26, 2023.
16. The withdrawal deadline is Tuesday, November 28, 2023.
17. The last day of classes is Tuesday, December 12, 2023.
18. Reading days are on Wednesday, December 13, and Saturday, December 16, to Sunday, December 17, 2023.
19. Final examinations take place from Thursday, December 14, to Friday, December 15, and Monday, December 18, to Tuesday, December 19, 2023.
20. The last day of the semester is Tuesday, December 19, 2023.
21. Syracuse winter break 2023 is from Wednesday, December 20, 2023, to Monday, January 15, 2024.
22. The degree award date is Friday, December 22, 2023.

Syracuse academic calendar Winterlude 2024

A Winterlude class is a 3 or 4-credit Spring session class that is held from mid-December to mid-January before the beginning of the Spring semester. Each class is offered fully online.

Syracuse University’s winter session features classes covering a wide variety of topics. You can earn three or four credits in just four weeks, boost your GPA, and prepare for studying abroad.

Winterlude classes are open to Syracuse University students, both full and part-time. Main campus students should meet with their Home College academic advisor for advisement before enrolling in a Winterlude class.
