Uchicago practice the quarter system, consisting of Autumn, Winter, Spring, and Summer. The quarter system is a unique part of the traditional UChicago education. 

It allows the University of Chicago students to take fewer courses each quarter than a semester system but more courses over their entire legal education. A quarter at UChicago usually is 9-10 weeks long. 

Uchicago academic calendar fall 2023

The University of Chicago has released its academic calendar for Fall 2023. The schedule of classes for undergraduates will be published on July 24, 2023. Continuing college students can pre-register from July 31 to August 4, 2023. First-year and transfer students can pre-register for non-humanities classes from August 14 to August 18, 2023. Graduate students can register starting on September 18, 2023.

The fall quarter begins on September 26, 2023, and the add/drop and consent period opens for first-year and transfer students on the same day. Thanksgiving break will be from November 20 to November 24, 2023, and the quarter ends on December 9, 2023.

1. UChicago undergraduates’ schedule of classes is published on July 24, 2023.
2. Continuing College student pre-registration opens on July 31, 2023, at 9:00 AM and closes on August 4, 2023, by 5:00 PM.
3. UChicago First-Year and Transfer student Pre-Reg opens for Non-Humanities classes at 9:00 AM on August 14, 2023, and closes at 5:00 PM on August 18, 2023.
4. Graduates’ Schedule of Classes is published on August 28, 2023.
5. Harris and Crown Pre-Registration opens at 8:30 AM on September 6, 2023, and closes by 11:59 PM on September 8, 2023.
6. Add/Drop/Consent period open for continuing College Students at 9:00 AM on September 11, 2023.
7. Graduate student registration opens at 8:30 AM on September 18, 2023.
8. Uchicago Fall 2023 starts on Tuesday, September 26, 2023.
9. Add/Drop and Consent opens for First-year and Transfer College students at 9:00 AM on Tuesday, September 26, 2023.
10. The consent Add/Drop period closes for College students at 5:00 PM on October 13, 2023.
11. Uchicago Thanksgiving break 2023 is from Monday, November 20, 2023, to Friday, November 24, 2023.
12. College Reading Period is from Saturday, December 2, 2023, to Monday, December 4, 2023.
13. Fall Quarter Ends on Saturday, December 9, 2023.
14. Uchicago winter break 2023 is from Sunday, December 10, 2023, to Tuesday, January 2, 2024.

13. Uchicago Law School’s last day of Winter 2023 Quarter Classes is Friday, March 3, 2023 @ 5:00 pm.
14. College Reading Period is Saturday, March 4 2023 from Monday, March 6 2023.
15. Law School Winter Quarter Reading Period (all day no classes) is Saturday, March 4, 2023 @ 8:00 am.
