UWaterloo Important Dates 2023-2024: Waterloo Calendar Dates

The UWaterloo Important Dates is a guide for the University of Waterloo students to know semester start dates, registration dates, add/drop dates, holidays, reading weeks, exam dates, other important academic dates, and deadlines.

At the University of Waterloo, the academic year is divided into three terms, each lasting four months. The Fall semester is from September to December, the Winter semester is from January to April, and the Spring semester is from May to August. There are about 12 weeks of classes followed by roughly two or three weeks of exams.

1. UWaterloo Winter 2023 Classes begin on Sep 6, 2023.
2. Reserves on most classes will be removed on Sep 13, 2023, opening remaining spaces to all students. See Schedule of Classes for spaces.
3. Last day to add a class is Sep 19, 2023. See how to add or swap classes in Quest.
4. Not Fees Arranged (NFA) holds applied to students who are not yet Fees Arranged for the term on Sep 21, 2023. Undergraduate students can find out more about how this hold will impact their course registration process for future terms.
5. Tuition and fee refund deadline – 100% is on Sep 26, 2023. See Student Financial Services website.
6. The Drop Period ends on Sep 26, 2023. Classes dropped prior to or on this day will be removed from the academic record. See how to drop a class in Quest.
7. Drop with WD begins on Sep 26, 2023. WD (Withdrew, no credit granted) grade is assigned for class(es) dropped during this period.
8. Final examination schedules are released on Sep 27, 2023. Go to the final examination schedule.
9. Reading Week is scheduled from Oct 2, 2023, to Oct 9, 2023. All classes are cancelled; offices are closed on the weekends and the holiday Monday.
10. Thanksgiving Day falls on Oct 9, 2023. All classes are cancelled, and offices are closed.
11. Requests for relief for consecutive final exams are generally due two weeks after the final examination schedule is published, which is on Oct 16, 2023.
12. Requests for accommodations on religious grounds for final examinations should normally be made within two weeks of the final examination schedule being published. Students must contact their instructor by Oct 16, 2023.
13. Convocation for fall 2023 is on Oct 16, 2023. Visit the Convocation website for details.
14. Tuition and fee refund deadline – 50% is on Oct 20, 2023. See Student Financial Services website.
15. The last day to select an examination centre or submit a proctor for online course exams is also on Oct 20, 2023. View details about writing exams for online courses. Deadline is 4 p.m. ET on the date listed.
16. Drop with WD ends on Oct 27, 2023. Last day to drop a class and receive a WD (Withdrew, no credit granted) grade.
17. Drop with WF begins on Nov 21, 2023. WF (Withdrew/Failure, no credit granted, value 32) grade is assigned for class(es) dropped during this period.
18. Classes end on Nov 22, 2023. Visit their website for applicable end dates.
19. Pre-examination study days are from Dec 5, 2023, to Dec 6, 2023.
20. Drop with WF ends on Dec 6, 2023. Last day to drop a class without a petition and receive a WF (Withdrew/Failure, no credit granted, value 32) grade.

28. Final examination emergency days are on Dec 22, 2023. Dates reserved to hold final examinations in the event the University is closed during the fall 2023 Final Examination Period. Examinations will be rescheduled on the next available day, including Sunday, on which examinations have not been scheduled.
29. University holiday closure is on Dec 22, 2023. No classes and offices are closed.
30. Grades begin to appear in Quest on Dec 23, 2023. Registered students can view their unofficial term grades in Quest. Note: Not all grades will be available on this date.
31. Standing decisions and official grades are available in Quest on Dec 23, 2023. Registered students can view their official and complete term grades, along with academic standing, in Quest.

UWaterloo reading week 2024

UWaterloo Reading Week 2024 is from Friday, February 16, 2024 to Saturday, February 25, 2024. All classes are cancelled, offices are closed on the weekends and on holiday Monday. Reading weeks occur in the fall and winter terms; they start with the Saturday before the public holidays of Thanksgiving Day and Family Day and end on the following Sunday.

During UWaterloo reading week, normal class schedules and academic requirements are suspended for a specified period of time. Classes resume after reading week on Monday, February 26, 2024.

1. View next term’s schedule and appointments starting from November 16, 2023.
2. The Drop/Add Period begins on November 16, 2023, with individualized Quest appointment times.
3. The first day of the Drop/Add Period where all undergraduate students have equal access to make changes to their term class schedule (add, drop, swap) in Quest is on November 20, 2023.
4. Tuition and fees are due by November 22, 2023. Pay in full or become “Fees Arranged”; a Fees Arranged Extension fee applies after this date.

7. No classes and offices are closed on December 15, 2023, for the University holiday closure.

19. The application to Graduate is due on February 19, 2024. Complete an Application to Graduate for the June convocation ceremony (undergraduate students).
20. Drop with WD ends on March 1, 2024. Last day to drop a class and receive a WD (Withdrew, no credit granted) grade.
21. Drop with WF begins on March 22, 2024. WF (Withdrew/Failure, no credit granted, value 32) grade is assigned for class(es) dropped during this period. Engineering students should visit course load and withdrawal in the Undergraduate Calendar for specific regulations.
22. Good Friday is observed on March 23, 2024. All classes are cancelled, and offices are closed.
23. Classes end on March 29, 2024. Laurier may have a different schedule – visit their website for applicable end dates.
24. The loss of a Friday class on March 29 will be made up by following a Friday schedule on April 8, 2024.
25. Pre-examination study days are scheduled from April 9, 2024, to April 10, 2024.
26. Drop with WF ends on April 10, 2024. Last day to drop a class without a petition and receive a WF (Withdrew/Failure, no credit granted, value 32) grade.
27. Final examinations begin on April 10, 2024. First day of the Final Examination Period.
28. In-person exam days for online courses are on April 11, 2024, April 14, 2024, and April 17, 2024, as per Winter 2024 term dates.
29. Final examination emergency days are from April 12, 2024, to April 20, 2024. Dates reserved to hold final examinations in the event the University is closed during the Winter 2024 Final Examination Period: Examinations will be rescheduled on the next available day, including Sunday, on which examinations have not been scheduled.
30. Final examinations end on April 21, 2024. Last day of the Final Examination Period.
31. Co-operative work term ends on April 25, 2024. Actual dates may vary depending on employer or student requirements.
32. Grades begin to appear in Quest on April 26, 2024. Registered students can view their unofficial term grades in Quest. Note: Not all grades will be available on this date.
