SDSU Academic Calendar 2023-2024: Important Dates

The SDSU academic calendar is a semester-based system consisting of Fall, Spring and Summer, which are usually 14 – 16 weeks long.

The San Diego State University academic calendar has holiday schedules, move-in dates, classes start dates, and other important dates and deadlines.

SDSU academic calendar fall 2023

1. Fall 2023 class schedule and student registration appointments are available on March 20, 2023.
2. Fall 2023 registration begins on April 17, 2023.
3. August 5, 2023 is the last day to report comprehensive examination results to the College of Graduate Studies by department or college.
4. The thesis publication’s strict 3:45 p.m. deadline is August 12, 2023.
5. New Graduate Student Orientation is available online on August 13, 2023 (tentative) according to the SDSU academic calendar 2023-2024.
6. Maximum undergraduate registration units for fall 2023 increases from 18 units to 21 units on August 14, 2023. Students requesting to enroll in more than 21 units must receive approval from their academic advisor.
7. SDSU move-in day for Sophomore, upper-division and graduate students is August 16, 2023. Move-in day for first year students (Freshmen) is on August 17, 2023 and August 18, 2023. SDSU Students are assigned a specific move-in date and check-in time based on their building assignment. 
8. SDSU Convocation 2023 is on August 17, 2023. All-University Convocation.
9. Welcome Week begins on August 18, 2023.
10. New Student and Family Convocation is on August 19, 2023.
11. August 20, 2023 is the last day to officially withdraw for the fall semester and receive a full refund (less administrative fee if applicable).
12. A $50 late registration fee will be accessed for late enrollment on August 21, 2023.
13. SDSU Fall 2023 classes start on August 21, 2023. It is the first day of Classes for San Diego State University students. Faculty can begin to add seats from class section wait lists. If a seat becomes available, students on the wait list will be added automatically. Faculty can select the number of students to be added to each course section through the class rosters available in the SDSU WebPortal.
14. August 27, 2023 is the last day of waitlist auto-enrollment. After this date, enrollment in open seats is not automatic or guaranteed. Faculty must enroll students from their waitlist.
15. On the sixth instructional day through the Schedule Adjustment deadline (August 28 to September 1, 2023), enrollment in open seats is not automatic or guaranteed. Enrollment during this period is by permission number only.
16. August 30, 2023 is the last day for faculty to drop students from classes (11:59 p.m. deadline).
17. Schedule Adjustment Deadline is September 1, 2023. It is the last day to add, drop, or change the grading basis (7:59 p.m. deadline).
18. September 1, 2023 is the last day to officially withdraw from the San Diego State University without a penalty fee for fall semester 2023. Withdrawal requests after September 1 are accepted by petition only.
19. The last day to apply for December 2023 graduation with a bachelor’s degree or advanced degree is September 1, 2023.
20. September 1, 2023 is the last day to file a petition for concurrent graduate credit for fall semester 2023.
21. The last day to opt-out of Immediate Access or Equitable Access for online course materials (if applicable) is September 1, 2023.
22. September 1, 2023 is the last day for payment of fees for registration (3:30 p.m. deadline).
23. Labor Day holiday is September 4, 2023. San Diego State University campuses are closed.
24. Census date is September 18, 2023 on the SDSU academic calendar 2023-2024.
25. September 18, 2023 is the last day to submit a Petition for Late Schedule Adjustment requesting a fall 2023 course withdrawal without a “W” on the transcript. Any approved requests received after this date will result in a “W” on the transcript.
26. Accepted applications for admission or readmission to San Diego State University for the fall semester 2023 are on October 1, 2023. Undergraduate applications are NOT accepted after November 30 (postmarked). Graduate applicants should consult Graduate Admissions for closing dates.
27. Indigenous Peoples’ Day is October 11, 2023.
28. Thesis submission strict 3:45 p.m. deadline is October 27, 2023. The final day for submitting thesis with processing fee to Montezuma Publishing for thesis review to have the best likelihood for SDSU fall 2023 graduation.
29. October 31, 2023 is the last day to officially withdraw from all classes for fall 2023 and receive a prorated refund (withdrawal after September 2 requires special approval and a penalty fee is assessed).
30. General Election day is November 8, 2023 according to the SDSU academic calendar 2023-2024.
31. Veterans Day holiday is November 10, 2023. Faculty/Staff holiday. Campus closed.
32. SDSU Thanksgiving break 2023 is from November 22, 2023 to November 24, 2023. Classes resume on Monday, November 27, 2023.
33. December 8, 2023 is the last day to report comprehensive examination results to the Division of Graduate Studies by department or college.
34. December 11, 2023 is the last day to submit a fall 2023 Petition for Late Schedule Adjustment.
35. December 11, 2023 is the last day of classes before final examinations.
36. SDSU Fall 2023 Final examinations is from December 12, 2023 to December 18, 2023.
37. According to the SDSU academic calendar, December 15, 2023 is thesis publication strict 3:45 p.m. deadline: The thesis review process, including publishing, must be completed on this date at Montezuma Publishing. Applicants for graduation who miss the final deadline will be automatically evaluated for graduation in future terms.
38. SDSU Winter break 2023 is from December 19, 2023 to January 15, 2024.
39. SDSU Fall 2023 grades are due from instructors on December 29, 2023 (11 p.m. deadline).
40. On the SDSU academic calendar 2023, December 29, 2023 is the last day of fall semester 2023.
41. December 29, 2023 is the last day to submit incomplete and RP grade removals (excluding thesis) for December 2023 graduation with an advanced degree.

1. SDSU Spring 2023 registration begins on November 1, 2022.
2. Spring 2023 registration closed to verify contingent enrollments from December 30, 2022 to January 8, 2023.
3. SDSU Spring 2023 Registration re-opens on January 9, 2023.
4. Maximum undergraduate registration units for spring 2023 increases from 18 units to 21 units on January 11, 2023. Students requesting to enroll in more than 21 units must receive approval from the SDSU academic adviser.
5. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday is January 16 2023. SDSU Campus closed.
6. First day of spring semester 2023 is January 17, 2023.
7. SDSU Spring 2023 classes start date is January 18, 2023. It is the first Day of Spring Classes.
8. On the sixth day of classes through the tenth day of classes (January 25, 2023 – January 31, 2023), enrollment in open seats is not automatic or guaranteed. Enrollment during this period is by permission number only.
9. January 27 2023 is the last day for faculty to drop students from classes for non-attendance or lack of required prerequisites (11:59 p.m. deadline) according to the SDSU academic calendar 2022-2023.
10. Schedule adjustment deadline is January 31, 2023. It is the last day for students to add, drop, or change grading basis (11:59 p.m. deadline). The last day for faculty to add students.
11. The last day to file a petition for concurrent graduate credit for spring semester 2023 is January 31, 2023.
12. On the SDSU academic calendar 2022, January 31, 2023 is the last day to Apply to Graduate and file an application for a bachelor’s degree or advanced degree for May and August 2023 graduation.
13. The last day to opt-out of Immediate Access for online course materials is January 31, 2023.
14. February 14 2022 is the last day to submit a Petition for Late Schedule Adjustment for course withdrawal without a “W” on the transcript.
15. Census date is February 14, 2023 on the SDSU academic calendar 2022-2023.
16. According to the SDSU academic calendar 2022-2023, March 18, 2023 is NCAA Tournament—Non-Instruction Day. Campus open.
17. The last day to officially withdraw from all classes for spring 2023 is March 22, 2023.
18. Thesis Submission Deadline is March 24, 2023. The Final Day, by 3:45 p.m., for submitting thesis with the processing fee to Montezuma Publishing for thesis review to have the best likelihood for graduation in Spring 2023.
19. SDSU Spring break 2023 is from March 27, 2023 to March 31, 2023. Spring recess. Cesar Chavez Day holiday is March 31, 2023. 
20. May 4, 2023 is the last day to submit a fall 2022 Petition for Late Schedule Adjustment.
21. May 4, 2023 is the last day of classes before final examinations.
22. The last day for reporting results on comprehensive examinations to the Division of Graduate Affairs by department or college is May 4, 2023 according to the the SDSU academic calendar 2022-2023.
23. SDSU Spring 2023 Final examinations period is May 5, 2023 – May 11, 2023.
24. SDSU Commencement/graduation 2023 at Imperial Valley Campus is on May 11, 2023.
25. May 12, 2023 is Thesis Publication Deadline: The thesis review process, including publishing, must be completed by 3:45 p.m. on this date at Montezuma Publishing to meet graduation requirements. Students missing the final deadline will be evaluated for graduation in the upcoming semester.
26. SDSU Commencement/graduation 2023 at the San Diego Campus is from May 12, 2023 to May 14, 2023.
27. May 18, 2023 is the last day to submit incomplete and RP grade removals (excluding thesis) for May 2023 graduation with an advanced degree according to the the SDSU academic calendar 2022-2023.
28. SDSU Spring grades are due from instructors on May 18, 2023 (11 p.m. deadline).
29. May 18, 2023 is the last day of the spring 2023 semester.
