The University at Buffalo (UB) operates on a semester system. Each semester is divided into two main terms: fall and spring. Each semester is approximately 15 weeks long.
Undergraduate students at the University at Buffalo must be registered for 12 or more credits to be considered full-time. Students registered for less than 12 credits are considered part-time. To graduate in 4 years, students should take an average of 15 credits per semester.
Students can register for a maximum of 19 credits during the fall and spring semesters. Students who wish to register for more than 19 credit hours during the fall or spring semester must consult with their academic advisor for approval. There are also credit limits for summer and winter sessions.
