Columbia Academic Calendar 2023-2024: Important Dates

The Columbia academic calendar 2023-2024 has academic year starting and ending dates, registration dates, holidays, other important dates, and deadlines. Columbia University in the City of New York is on a semester system. The academic year is divided into two terms (semesters).

The autumn or fall semester runs from September through December, and the spring semester runs from the middle of January through early May.

A one-month winter vacation, between mid-December and mid-January, divides the two semesters.

Between mid-May and mid-August, two six-week sessions are offered (Summer A and B). Course selection during the summer sessions is typically limited, although departments often provide special courses and workshops during the summer.

2. The deadline for New Students to sign the Occupancy Agreement is from 4:00 AM on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, to 3:59 AM on August 2, 2023. New students, including incoming First-Year, Transfer, Combined Plan, and Exchange students should log in to the Housing Portal to sign the Occupancy Agreement. Failure to sign the Occupancy Agreement may delay your Check-In process.
3. Columbia University’s move-in day for fall 2023 is from Saturday, August 26, 2023, to Friday, September 1, 2023. International First-Year move-in day is Saturday, August 26, 2023 from 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM. First-Year Move-In day is Sunday, August 27, 2023, from 1:00 PM – 9:00 PM. Combined Plan, Exchange and Transfer Student Move-In day is Tuesday, August 29, 2023, from 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM. Upperclass Move-In day is Friday, September 1, 2023, from 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM.
4. Labor Day Holiday is Monday, September 04, 2023. Administrative and Academic Offices Closed; No Classes Held.
5. Columbia Fall 2023 classes start on Tuesday, September 05, 2023. It is the First Day of Classes for Columbia University students.
6. Friday, September 15, 2023 is the end of Change of Program Period. This is the Last Day to Add Class, the Last Day to Receive a Tuition Refund for Class Dropped.
7. Course Drop Deadline is Friday, September 15, 2023. It is the Last Day to Drop a Course.
8. Tuesday, October 10, 2023 is the Last Day to Drop Class for Columbia College, Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, School of General Studies, School of Professional Studies, School of the Arts.
9. The course Withdrawal Deadline is Tuesday, October 10, 2023. It is the Last Day to Withdraw from a Course.
10. October Degrees are Conferred on Wednesday, October 18, 2023.
